If you own a garage door, it’s a pretty good idea to have at least a basic understanding of the components that make a garage door work. This will come in handy if you ever face a repair issue. The torsion springs are centered above the garage door and connect to cables at the bottom of the garage door. These springs provide the tension that raises or lowers your door — what makes a several hundred pound door feel as light as a feather. The extension springs run along the horizontal tracks and serve to counterbalance the door. The tracks are what the rollers or wheels of the garage door run on to provide the up and down motion.
