Is Your Pet Safe in the Garage When You’re At Work?

in Uncategorized by Dan Dreifort

Doggie day cares can get expensive, but they’re cheaper than new carpeting. Do you leave your pet in the garage when you go to work? No worries. It’s perfectly safe. (It’s not like they’ll break out the power tools!) Whether or not they’re comfortable is another story. Here are a few tips on how to not only make your garage a safe but comfy place to keep your pets while you’re away at work.

Proper Insulation

Your pet won’t be comfy if your garage isn’t properly insulated, especially during the hot summers we get in Elk Grove, California. Consider installing an insulated garage door if you don’t already have one. If your garage door has leaks or gaps, consider repairing it. You might consider installing a small air conditioning system or opening a small window for ventilation.

When considering the insulation of a garage door, pay attention to R-value — resistance to heat flow. Generally, the higher the R-Value, the greater the insulating power and resistance to heat flow. For an attached garage, we recommend installing a garage door with an R-value between 7 and 13. This will not only keep the temperatures comfortable for your pet — it will keep your house cooler, lowering your air conditioner bill in the summer.

Doggie Furniture

Make sure your dog is perfectly comfortable with a doggie bed, a comfy blanket or pillow. You might also want to leave out some chew toys to keep them entertained.

Water Bowl Safety

Make sure your dog has plenty of water and that the water is secured in such a way that it won’t be easily knocked over.
