How Lit is Your Garage Door How Lighting Affects Security and Curb AppealWe talk a lot on this blog about how a beautiful new garage door can increase the curb appeal of your home. But that’s only if people can see it. That’s why ambient lighting is just as important when it comes to the ROI a new garage door can make to your home.

The Beauty of Downlighting

Downlighting is one of the most popular choices when it comes to garage door lighting. Installed above the garage door, these lights are focused on the garage and surrounding area. This helps to highlight the appeal of the garage at night, create an attractive allure that is eye-catching and beautiful. Downlighting can be especially appealing if you have a wooden garage door or a color that complements the rest of the home particularly well.

Security and Safety Improvements

In addition to highlighting the visual appeal, a well lit garage door is also more secure. Criminals hate well lit areas. In fact, having a dark garage and driveway actually makes you a target. If your neighbors have great garage door and driveway lighting, you’re a much more appealing target, the low hanging fruit so to speak.

DIY Repair for an Overhead Garage Door: How to Replace the Rollers

If you’ve got a garage door that’s hard to open or just doesn’t run as smooth as it once did, you might need to replace the rollers. It’s a fairly handy DIY repair for overhead garage door you can do without too much hassle. You’ll need a pack of new rollers, which you can get at most hardware stores. Open the garage door and place a clamp on the door so that it remains open. Release the door from the opener by pulling the red rope that hangs from the chain. Line up the first roller with the opening. Wedge a flathead screwdriver between it and the track. Ply out the old roller and remove it. Slide in a new roller and apply it to the track. Repeat the same process for all the rollers. Once you’ve got the bottom four rollers, lower the door to the ground and start at the top, working your way down.
